Just curious as to what size tank and how much filtration other fahaka owners are using.
My setup: Fish is currently 8 inches, living solo, housed in a 180 (72"x24"x24") tank, running a Fluval 404, a Fluval 403 and a 40 gallon sump with a 10 gallon bio-chamber powered by a Hagen 802 powerhead, with 2 250 watt heaters set at 80F.
Maintainence schedule is weekly 75 gallon water changes with daily spot-cleaning of leftover pieces of food and any large dumps.

I just got mine yesterday he is 4 inches in a 75 gal. Going into the 120 in about a month. 30 gal sump and 2 ac110s

That sounds pretty good. How often do you clean out the canisters? I prefer to use large HOB filters (I've got 2 Aquaclear 500s) & a large canister (Eheim 2217) for easier, more frequent cleaning. I do much larger WC (75%) but my fahaka allows tankmates & the tank is only 125g.

sounds like you got more then enough filtration for your fahaka. just make sure to pull out the shells and other uneaten bits of food after feeding.

Yeah, I went overkill on the filtration but I figured I had them so I may as well use them. My tank is actually drilled 3x, so I plumbed the 2 canister filters through the side of the tank. Like I posted, I actually do spot cleaning every day, more for looks than anything else. I have a filter sock set up on the side of the sump with an open faced stand, I just siphon up any leftovers into the sock and dump it once a day.

I clean one canister every water change. I bought a bunch of the bonded blue filter pads and cut them to size for each of the filters, so I just pop out the old ones and drop in clean ones and rinse the pre-filter material. Same with the bio-chamber. It's got a drip plate with a blue filter foam piece sitting up on eggcrate, that gets changed for a clean piece every week.

Im going to be lurking around this forum for awhile...I think my next adventure is going to be with a Fahaka.

I got mine yesterday and he is awesome already relaxed checking out the whole tank Doesn't quite realize I'm the food source yet but he's a blast to watch.

All my HOBs are very old Aquaclears. They last forever!
