Fahaka owners/ Your tank and filters?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I keep hearing all these stories about people petting them and how they spit water and watch their owners. How long does it take for certain personality traits to show up if at all. I do enjoy him either way just curious what experienced owners have noticed if there is an average time or age when they will develop these traits. I know it's more or less the luck of the draw with these guys and their personalities but I wonder what other people have noticed in the first year or 2

I got mine young, about 2.5", and I would say it was about a month before the puffer began to watch me and beg for food when I came near. The turning point in its behavior happened once I removed a rhino pleco that was harassing it.

That is pretty fast. I wasn't expecting a month although mine is coming around more and more. I've had fish that don't fully acclimate to their environment for a month or more. Thanks for the info.

They grow about 1 inch a month until 15 inches. They produce more waste than any other fish of their size.

Nothing phases them, not even you. About one month to come to the tank, about 2 months to eat from your fingers.

Be careful though not to get them hooked on live food or else you will PAY for it later

My Fahaka "Thickness" is probobly about 10 inches. In a 75 gallon with 3 AC 110s. WCs twice a week except for the occasional cray, then it gets an additional WC the next night. Only feed him about 3 maybe 4 times a week..... Until moved, then it will be fed more often.
