Ok guys a few days ago i noticed my fahaka was acting strange ,breathing heavy ,kinda staying in one area.So i checked my water parameters and my ammonia was high ,so i proceeded to do my regular weekly water change a day early ,and while doing i found the ammonia culpurt a left over shrimp that wasnt eaten .Now the 4th day night everything is back in order except nitrates which always run a little high in my tank, anyway PUFF DADDY is still breathing heavy hasnt eaten, nor not is active self the light have been off for the past few days and i added some aquarium salt . Is there anything else i could, should do .Do you guys think he's just stressed and is gonna be fine i'm probally over reacting but i really have grown to like this guy/gal thanks
O yea why is my ph so low 6.0 is this ok or should i raise it if so how high what product to do it with, and would this affect other levels ammonia nitrates etc. ?

I personally wouldn't start messing with the PH, since that could possibly stress the fish more, and if your puffer has been in that tank awhile with that sort of PH i wouldn't worry too much about it now...

Anyway, what are the parameters exactly in the tank, tank size and diet for your puffer... give members here as much info as possible so that we can try and give you the best answer...

1.ammonia between 0 -0.25 nitrite 0 nitrate between 20-40
2. 110 gallon
3. alot of ramshorn snail ,blood worms, few meal worm, earth worm, and shrimp
4. hes been in this tank for 3 months when he gets bigger i already have 150 for him

What's the pH of your tap water? If your nitrate is that high, you aren't doing enough, large WC to keep them down.

tap water reads 6.0 ph
well its usally lower but i think that shrimp may have had something to do with all this but im working on it .... i just did a 30 gallon change i wasnt sure to do more with his condition , whata u think how big a change? Or hold off on big change till he gets un stressed if thats the problem ... What u think is wrong with the fish is he/she gonna be ok ?

Sounds like your bio filter may be overloaded from that leftover shrimp. Your bio filter may not be able to handle that much load that quickly. I would add a dose of prime or other ammonia neutralizer just in case.

Personally speaking, i don't think a large-ish water change would necessarily be a bad thing if your water is slightly off... or maybe do 2 smaller water changes in one day... say one in the morning and maybe one at night to bring the levels back to a more consistent one...

pH of 6 is close to that of urine. Certainly not safe for human consumption! You need to have a talk with your water supply company.
Prime is good.

I would stop with everything besides upping the water changes and amounts. Doing anything else is just going to stress your fahaka out even more.

Ok changed 50 % used the python in the sand and moved some rocks and found alot of stuff i think was the problem..We shall see added the prime and some stress coat for a little extra help... he's still panting today so i hope he gets better ....You guys think he may have burned his gills with the ammonia or nitrate? If so will it heal up ? When should i change some more water ? or just leave it for a day for not to stress him?
