Hi, I'm currently setting up an 190 gallon tank.

I have a lot of driftwood, sand and some round river rocks(no sharp edges). I'm getting a fluval fx6 next week and 60 Anubias (40 nana and 20 congensis) and 20-25 java ferns narrow leafs.

I'm getting in a month or two an Eheim 600 classic and Eheim 11w uv sterilizer.

Based in this setup I'm currently looking for fish to keep. My preference is to keep a fahaka puffer.

If I get one I will receive one that is a juvenile.

Based on these plants and setup, could I keep a fahaka puffer with plants?

If not I'm going for geophargus and Nicaragua cichlids and some catfish.
But all in all, fahaka is what I want the most.

I have a dwarf puffer in a nano tank with some crabs and amano shrimps and plants. All in all, quite happy with that setup. And I'm thinking having another type of puffer would be great.

I hope I'll get some answers from you, and I'd appreciate any feedback on my choice of filters.

So plants + fahaka = compatible or expensive salat?

That's a shot of my tank current setup.

I have a 300w heater, but replacing it with 2 jaeger heaters before fish is introduced. I also have a circulation pump running at the moment.

Just waiting for my fx6 to get cycled before any fish is added.

Thanks for your quick reply!
You have not noticed any nibbling or anything from your puffer?

Mine trimmed some plants from time to time, but it was a rarity. They should be fine together.

Anyone else have experience with fahaka and plants? Please provide pictures.

I was looking at my old posts(8 years ago) and I totally forgot I used to own channa obscuras. This might actually be something for me, but none of my suppliers have it in stock at the moment, they have many different channa's but not obscuras. Which in my IMO is the most beautiful snakehead, but not the most active fish, besides feeding time.

Also does the fahaka like a good flow in the tank?

My Fahaka doesn't seem to like current, stays in calmer waters. It has pretty much shreded plastic plants. I have seen plenty of pictures of them in planted tanks.
I think the Fahaka would tear up a planted tank less than the cichlids you mentioned.

That's what I thought.

It's a shame though, I really like the fish, but I love plants in a tanks.

Perhaps I could go with South American pufferfish, and they seem to me more excepting of tank mates and plants. But if possible, I would love a group of them, but probably not likely.

Btw, how does the fahakas breed in the wild if they are so aggressive? Is sort of like spiders (one of the partners eats the other?)
