wow! thats a beautiful puffer! how big/old? how often do i actually need to feed him something crunchy?

He's 14" and only a yr old.

His name is Giles.

I feed him 3 days a week. And day 1 it's 2 large market shrimps with shell, day 2 it's 2 mussels, and day 3 it's a snail, some krill, and tilapia fillet.

So, he gets crunchy every time I feed him, just in a variety.

someone needs to produce a puffer food that combats beak growth. something like massivore with pummace or clam shell mixed in.

x1

Your feeding mussels 1x/week should be plenty of crunch to keep his beak trimmed. Puffers need a varied diet & I think yours is good & that pic proves how healthy he is. He's gorgeous! My fahaka lives with several fish--even had a pair of 20 year old elephant noses & a large BGK with him. He's my gentle giant. He's also been known to kill fish he's lived with from a juvie, so you just never know... I'd never put him with a fish that would bully him though.

the pic posted is not of mine, that is mshill90's. mine is about 6" and i am wondering what he can be chewing on now to keep his beak trimmed. and the other ?'s in the 1st post.

As far as growing your own food source, setting up a small tank just for ramshorn snails is a good idea, as they are prolific breeders and you don't want them in any of your main tanks incase they take over...

Otherwise, as mentioned, marble crays is another good source of food if they are legal in your country / area?

Yes, puffers can easily become obese & then they die of fatty liver disease. #1 way to do that is feed them goldfish.

Pellets are fine & may help with the trimming of his teeth but puffers need a varied diet: http://www.**************.com/forum/library/category/feeding/

I'd love to see a pic of your fahaka.
