Fahaka wont eat

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
+1 My fahaka went on a 3 week strike after being moved from a 55g to his 125g. and I thought he'd be happy about it! Earthworms are the thing he ate 1st after that.

First I feel that the change in ph is enough to shock him really bad. But now that he has been in it for a week I would change it on him again. What is your temperature? If it is under 80 you might want to try raising it up a bit to get his metabolism going good. That can help make him hungry enough to eat in my experience. Keep the lights off in the tank, that will also help lower his stress. What does he look like? If he is all dark black then he is very stress out.

That rock substrate is a bit large--good luck keeping it clean with that messy eater you have in there. All sorts of pieces of food are going to fall inbetween those rocks.

He looks very healthy and happy. Has he pooped in your tank yet he could be impacted because of the change in tank parameters, just a suggestion but I think a little salt and raising the temp a 2deg till he is eating might help.

Ill raise the temp. What does the salt do? I believe he has pooped i saw yellow poop like stuff when i vacummed the gravel on sunday.

Whats the best sand to use? Pool filter sand? I will change it out as soon as i can get outside to rinse it well. Early spring

My Fahaka is was a fickle eater for awhile. I started with ghost shrimp and moved to whole frozen krill. Fish King is the brand I have been using and he loves it. Worth a shot hope everything works out.
