Fahakas are pretty cool fish with great personalities. THey're definetely, and let me stress this, definetely a one fish per tank type of fish. No tankmates at all. 18" max size in captivity and you probably want a tank in the 125 gallon range. What size is the puffer?

yeah, I've always heard a 125 is minimum though I think a 120 (4' x 2' x 2') might be even better giving more width and therefore turning space. I've heard they often max out at 12" in captivity but I'd suspect this is due to improper water quality and/or tank size. I think a healthy fahaka in a large enough tank should get to at least 16-18". :)

I got one 5 or 6 months ago and he is a joy! He is around 7" now and eats live cray fish and freeze dried shrimp.

The first time I ever fed him live was neat! I got him at around an inch so I don't think that he had ever seen live food but he instinctively knew to come at it from the back and at a 45deg angle.

Right now he is in a 55 with a 1gph drip but when he gets a few inches longer he will go into a 125 for a while and then he will go into a 265.

Last night he let me feed him by hand!:grinyes: If you have space for one I would recommned one.

by the end of this summer i plan to have a 150 i think the demensions are 4 by 3 by 2 and i plan also to put one fahaka puffer in there solo:thumbsup:

its 3-4". there has to be some leanway with tankmates right?

Mine had some 4" cichlids as tankmates until I started to see round pieces being taken out of their tails.

30 dollars is a reasonable price for a fahaka that size at a lfs. The problem with tankmates is choosing them. Cichlids are naturally curious so they tend to forget that some non cichlids can be incredibly non forgiving and aggressive. Like Repair said, I was starting to notice some of my fish missing bite sized pieces of fins and I knew something was up. During feeding time, my cichlids DID NOT CARE whatever else was in the tank, they wanted that food no matter what, but just so happens that an aggressive fahaka wanted the same piece, uh oh.

Tetraodon lineatus (fahaka) can grow up to 20"! This Puffer 19,7" in two years ;). I got it with 3"
