Well, ya.
No luck, its all about knowledge and understanding of simple conceptsl to easily grow plants. Thats what seperates the grown-ups from the kids just starting out. Or if thats not working for you, finding your own driftwood or rocks, and the carefull arrangement of them throughout the tank to create the perfect scene is all part of the hobby to me.
At least thats what I think when I see fake deco. No offense to anyone personally.
i have a planted tank. this one is designed for low maintence.:screwy:

Nice, glad to see your attempting it.
Fake tanks really don't even compare.

If your doing a carpet dwarf sag is a classic, or even rotala rotundifolia really finely trimmed makes a great foreground if you have higher light and steady hands.

I saw the exact same deco items at the store the other day after seeing this thread. I was very close to jacking your idea but decided not to.

lol. u could have! lol

I like it!

I'm a fan of some of the fake decor myself...I have a biocube done in "fake ocean" theme. BIt of a crappy photo that doesn't really capture how pretty it is, but you get the gist.

It's a bit funny but I personally think many planted and "natural" tanks are not very pleasing to look at. The plants tend to give tanks a murky look about them, and driftwood and whatnot looks good in moderation, but heavily rock/wooded/planted tanks just don't do much for me. I LIKE them, but I wouldn't want my tanks to look like that as it isn't my taste.

My 120 gallon is done with orange/yellow/burnt polished agate slabs, chunks of tangerine coloured natural rock, polished natural rock globes and a few fake bonsai trees (my fish eat live plants). I love it and I've been keeping fish for a very long time. It's "natural" but in a very different way.

I think it's a bit ridiculous when people consider a persons' choice of tank decor as somehow meaning they are not "knowledgable" enough or whatnot. Just as there are infinite of different ways to decorate a house (modern, old-fashioned, deco, etc etc), there are infinite ways to decorate a tank. Biggest pet peeve ever is those who judge on something that simply amounts to personal taste.

/rant lol
