Fake plants

do fake plants and real plants add to the places for beneficial bacteria? if fake plants do, is there a difference if they're silk or plastic?

BB will adhere to many things, but plants (and decor in general) should only support a small portion of the BB in your tank.

Depends on what fish ya have, my royal pleco eats any live plants I put in so after many dollars wasted I gave up on it. I've got many bright orange and red fake plants right now with a skull in the middle of em, looks like some kind of hellfire scenery, and all my fish didn't seem to be stressed at all

you get what you pay for. Ive had fake plant tanks that looked amazing. Ive also had fake plant tanks that looked terrible. IMO, fake plants are best used as an accent to a hardscape. I often utilize fake plants around caves or emerging from behind rocks or driftwood. I think fake plants on their own in the open look more fake

i agree

I added a giant tall (3 ft) plant into my 240 a few days ago. Not only does it look pretty good, it caused my big Dat to color up better. Several of the fish have had their behavior change some. Thinking about adding another.
