As some of you know i built my first pond this spring so this is my first year with a pond. Its about 300g with a homemade filter out of a 3g bucket and water hyacith. i have a pleco, channel cat and 6 goldfish. ive been cleaning the filter every 2 weeks and feeding every 2-3days. its been crystal clear all year long. and ive dont nothing different. the last 3-4 weeks its been getting greener. i figured it needed cleaning real good so i vacuumed the gravel and did a 50% WC. it got worse. is it a fall thing or should i be looking somewhere else for a different problem?

Cooler water temps. kill certain beneficial bacteria. Some manufactures make a cool water supplement that contains that special bacteria. Also, it's the first year of the pond. Next springs algae bloom will be bad, but after the "terrible two's" the pond will have enough bene. bacteria to be able to handle any major swings. The spring and fall are just times of the year algae flourish. Once the marginals and lillies start pushing a lot of growth the pond can combat any extra nutrients themselves. Don't let this little set back scare you. Just know the spring/fall algae is completely natural and healthy for the pond.

ok, just scared i may have wiped out my bio filter or something while i was cleaning
