either way, i do not think that it is accurate to compare a false water cobra to a timber, even if the venom is similar, the bites are not even close.

Im not comparing the two,far from it.I just stated that the venom itself is comparable in its genetic make-up.The snakes themselves are certainly not due to fwcs being rear-fanged,hence why here in the uk we dont need a licence for them.Great snakes,but try and get a cb baby,an 8ft feisty wc adult is a real beast!

that is not possible, Timbers probably have the second most potent venom in the states and would certainly kill you with out medical help. I would equate the venom of a false water cobra to something like a giant hognose. you would get a painful rash and possibly some muscular damage but nothing that would not heal after a few weeks even without medical attention. A friend of mine has been bit and all he got was an ichy red spot around the bite that went away after a few days but it can vary a lot between people and snake.

Berber King is correct, the actual toxicity of a FWCs venom is similar to that of a rattlesnake...their bite is so potent because of enormous venom glands and efficent delivery system. Rattlesnakes have rather low toxicity when compared to volume....for instance, a rattlesnake's venom injected intravenously is 10x less venomous than a cobra, and 100x less venomous than a brownsnake...but the rattler injects 100x as much...there is a big difference between venom strength and bite strength.
