Families: Dinners on budget?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
tell me about it. Its more like $200 every 10 days or so, with milk and bread pick-ups in between.

I sneak into the university's dining hall when i can :grinno:

rice, beans, some raw veggies, chicken breast every day

There are a lot of dollar stores around here and I stock up on all the tuna and pasta that they put on the shelves.I like to get Campbells soup clam chowder and throw in a pack of oodles of noodles, hot dogs and just about any other cheap meat will beef up a bowl of noodles.I watch out for good sales at the big supermarkets.I would try hunting if I had the time to drive out the woods and stalk and shoot game animals. This time of year is always tough because I have to constantly think about keeping the heating oil tank full.

here in No.VA the Safeway stores have the club discount and I pick up Lean Cuisines or Healthy Choice 4/$7.00 or frozen pizzas for $5.00 or I get sandwhich meat and cheese and bread and make sandwhiches for lunch. That leaves money for fish and equipment.

Something cheap I do often,if you like tuna, top ramin without the seasoning, drain it,add can of tuna, parmasan cheese and some green olives, maybe a little olive oil.Its good I swear. Also to save money on those oatmeal packs, use the regular 1 minute quick oats,at a little maple syrup and raisins, awesome.Way cheaper than the single packs.Damn now Im hungry.

Also when you make tuna throw in one slice of broken up white bread... and mix it up with mayonaise as usual...not only does it go further but it really tastes better because the tuna and mayo actually get absorb by that slice of bread and you would never know it is there... just try it once..

my food habits are just cheap by nature. Clif Bar, banana, and bottle of water for breakfast (Clif Bar's are about 75 cents a piece if you get them from Sams/Costco), sandwich with a few veggies for lunch, then whatever I feel like for dinner since the rest of my day is so cheap. It is usually something cheap from the pantry though, because I'm lazzzyyy.

I eat lots of fish, crab when its on sale, chicken, spagetti, steak, shrimp when its on sale (seafood goes on sale pretty often around here ^_^), stir fry (which I tend to turn into lo mein), spam with egg and egg-rice. I usually have rice with all my meals. I could go on. I eat yummily.

Ex. Tilapia is mad cheap. Flounder goes on sale a lot and is cheap when it is, you get the picture. Meat: I like my steak. I found I like to pay $3-5 for a top round or chuck steak and it taste pretty effin good for cheap steak. You get the idea.
