Family shot in night time! My rays

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
They are in 200gl tank for now, nothing else in the tank. I keep my tanks warm, around 84degrees with 2xdaily feeding of blackworms. As they grow, feeding will become more varied, and I will cut to once a day.

Water changes are done 3 to 4 times a week, about 40% every time (old discus habit).

PH is 6.8 and all other parameters are perfect!

Filtration is via a Fluval Fx5 with one of the outputs directed through a set of penguim bio-wheels (awsome)!

Next year the motoros are moving to their own house, a custom built pond in my basement, hence the breeding goals, the retics and the yepezi stay were they are for now, and I will add a 3 small silver arowanas.

Nice tank stats! And wow, i admire you for your dedication with water changes.
Indeed, breeding motoro is on my To Do list in the far future for this hobby.
What are you going to do with the 3 small aros when they grow some? Pop them in the pond?

It will depend on their development rate, I am still recovering from the lost of my 22 inch that somehow jumped out of a fully enclosed tank held down with duct tape!

One I will keep for sure, either in the pond, or in the 200gl, the other 2 may be traded with other keepers, there is always a lot of interest in grown aros...

wow the tail on that retic is awesome. i hope mine gets that long, its barely past the stinger right now, any chance on it growing that long? n do you ever have any issues mixing retics with motoros? i wanna get my hands on some motoros but im afraid they might fight or something.

Thanks! I don't know if the tail will grow or not...my small retics have log tails from young, it is very common for them to loose part of the tail when shipping, I have one now that lost a piece and seems to be growing a crooked stub :nilly: don't know how that will turn...my older grown up one has a short tail, looks like the lenght of the motoros. Maybe someone with more expertise can chime in...

All the rays get along in my tank, they are all young an overfed, can't tell you how they will react in your tank, good thing is that there is always someone willing to take a ray from you if you have problems, not like they are common Oscars!:) Give it a try!

I have had pieces of tail bitten off my mossiac ray
never grew back, just healed over
