I've been keeping my wife's pearlscale fancy goldfish for close to 2 years now, *her* name is Fido!

So over the past few months she has had an angry red spot on her side just above her right side pectoral fin. It has grown to the size of a pea and is very soft(not a tumor), like a water blister-filled with clear fluid for a few days, that turns red like the top of her head.

This shows the start of the spot- but it is easily 10 times bigger than that now(1/2 the size of a dime)

Ive left it alone, lowed temp, raised temp, added salt, water changed, used Maracyn, laced it, even removed it - everything I could think of, heard might help from here, asked LFS owners...but I'm stumped.

Up until this last week it's just been a growth- now she is sitting on the bottom, not mid tank like she has done all her life...The wife is worried....

She also now does this odd behavior of swimming up to the top-breaching the water then *tumbles* back to the bottom of the tank swimming upside down at times! She has NEVER done this!

I have since removed all but 2 tiny panda cory cats from her tank. I don't think these 2 things are related, but the sitting on the bottom makes me think she has a swim bladder problem....not cool. :irked:

The growth is the main concern, but if there are some comments on their experiences and any similar odd behaviors you've experienced will help me try to understand whats up and what I can do to make her better.

Thank you fish-friends!

That's what I thought too with the use of the Maricyn (low impact broad range antibiotic), but it came RIGHT back and got bigger as soon as the meds were stopped (within a week).

Also- the spot above is way early- the spot is MUCH bigger now. and it does not look like one of the normal pearl bumps (it is mis-colored)

Sorry for the length, I was trying to capture her tumbling routine... There are some GREAT close ups of the angry red spot, it is healing now after I performed a bit of surgery, but the blister came right back(seen in close-up at around the 5 minute mark if you wanna skip the bulk of the vid...).

You can also see her struggle to get any height in the tank and when she stops swimming, right to the bottom she goes. its very sad to see- fish may not have feelings, but this one sure looks depressed! :1zhelp:

I have never Melafix'd this tank and to be honest never have checked it either since the Bio load is relatively small , well filtered (Cascade 1000 canister on a 35 hex), with weekly 30-50% WC. I will check tonight and post ammonia and nitrate results...only 2 kits I have...

I have used medicated food in the past but it was to treat for internal parasites, not bacterial. If her swim bladder is damaged, will it heal an its own? Another thing I'm concerned with is her 'gardening habits'...think she in jested too much sand? She spits the gravel out as you can see when I fed her...

Thanks for the responses!

Isn't she though!

My wife loves her like the dog or cats...she's got a lot of personality too, that's why this is all so sad!

At least she doesn't have the bug eyes too...lol

Update...

Ammonia : >0
Nitrites: >0
Nitrates: 30-40ppm (normal for my area)

No change in condition of the fish- besides the blister coming back and getting bigger.

Any other suggestions?
