Neither crayfish nor crabs will work except perhaps the dwarf species of crayfish. If you hope to obtain more information on dwarf crayfish, please post a separate thread about it in Freshwater Invertebrates section so you will get more accurate responses there from the crayfish enthusiasts themselves.

Giant danios can certainly work but be aware that as these are rather feisty, you need to make sure their tankmates are also getting their fair share of food. What other fish fascinate you? Perhaps some blind cave tetras, exodons or Buenos Aires tetras? When you decide on your fish, your option to keep invertebrates will also change since there are other fish are completely incompatible with invertebrates.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll probably go for the Buenos Aires cause they sound nice... and look quite nice too.

Any idea whether they could go with bettas? I was planning to keep some bettas. Oh and do bettas like fight with other fish or do they just fight with themselves?

Bettas will fight eachother, and typically Gouramis. They may also go after other fish that are their color, often times if they are the same color. Tetras and bettas I've never had a problem mixing.. But.. it's always a chance mixing a betta in a community type tank. they prefer slow moveing water, and should have plenty of resting spots in a larger tank in my experience.
