Fastae or Mayan?

Mayans are far more interactive than festaes. Enjoy that fish! Be one of the select few.:)

I picked these up today, they said it was a red terror and that their "red terror guy" even came in and confirmed it for them. I would like some further confirmation or oppositions. And if you can, give some support for your identification.

Funny how their "red terror guy" doesn't even know how to spot a red terror....Lol

The name red terror has been interchangeable for both festae, and uropthalmus for a long time (whether we aquarists like it or not), just as the name red devil is used for a number of Amphilophus species, and the term Texas cichlid seems to apply to a number of the Herichthys carpintus complex.
Using these common terms only adds to the confusion.
If you want a festae you must ask for, and use the name festae, and buy from a reputable source if you really want one. Using the name red terror leaves you open to all manner of mistakes.
It's too bad it's like this, but it's the reality.

Are Mayans still a cool/entertaining fish to keep? and based on the pics is there any way to tell the sex of them? if not what are some differences between sexes that will pop up as they grow up?
