Quarantine Tank
Tell me if this would work in order to have the fastest cycled tank ever....:)

The only thing new would be the tank itself but I would take gravel, fake plants, water, and a canister from an already running and established tank and put everything in a new tank.

Would this work?

When I cycle a new tank, I always take an existing filter and run it alongside my new filter to transfer the bacteria, and i swap the media as much as possible to spread it. I would still allow a few days to a week before fish, unless you use something like bio-spira or live substrate. Using the old water, filter and substrate then adding new water is like doing a waterchange on an established tank, but i would still wait a while to be on the safe side.

SWEET!!!

i wouldnt add the old water, you dont need the junk that comes with it.

instead, add the water to the tank first, declorinate it and let the temp rise to the desired degree , then you can start adding the subsrate, etc.

and PRESTO!! you got clean water with the right temeprature and no shock to anything

I just upgraded from a 55 to a 150 in pretty much this fashion.. I ended up with a 4 day bloom, but now everything is clear and all fish still live healthy :)

I think everything would be fine.

Sure it would work all the important bacteria is in your filter once you have a "seeded" filter getting new tanks going is a snap

Sure, that would be a cycled tank, thoguh adding old tankwater is pointless. Just add fresh dechlorinated water.

BTW I have done this several times. I keep a couple of spare internals, and sponge filter, and on a new tank I just add fresh dechlorinated water, sand from my main tank, and a mature filter. I wait overnight for the water to be at the right temp, and to be plenty oxygenated then add fish.
