Not sure where to post this, but I am setting up a large freswhater aquarium for my new apartment.

I want some fish that are going to get fast in a hurry.

Start naming some cooler things that grow up quick.

I dont want things like arapaima etc.

Looking more in the pbass range size, and right now pbass are being considered.

Let me know what you think.

What size tank?

Don't know your thoughts on cichlids, but oscars grow pretty quickly. I also have a flowerhorn that has grown 3 inches in the last 2 months. Depending on how big your tanks is, of course, some of the larger cichlids can grow very fast.

I am open to larger ciclids. I dont want anything over peacock bass size. Tank grow out will be 100g.

Want to start small - so Ill get fish eating in 10gs- purchased and set up yesterday along with the 100g.

I am currently arranging a trade for the 100g for a 250g as well, so the upgrade is already in the works.

Dont want anything red tail sized. Im talking fish that are 30" or less. I want to have a catfish, a mid tank fish, and a top water fish. Gar?

Thinking about a larger puffer as well...but those guys cant really get along with anything, and I dont just want one fish. I was thinking a fahaka, pbass, and a catfish. Currently looking at Callophysus macropterus for my catfish.

Jag cichlids, oscars, peacock bass, green terrors, jurneese, tigrinus, all being considered for this tank. Fahaka as well.

Looking for rarer fish...but doesnt have to be. Just want something to do in my new apartment.

If you get the 250, an arowana would be perfect for the top of the water. They grow very fast. And they are just plain awesome. For the top of a tank, there are very few fish, in my opinion, that look as a cool as a 2 foot black arawona.

Oscars are fast, silver aro if the tanks big enough, Frontosa's are exreeemely slow growers, talking couple inches a year, my Jags grew very quicly, from about 1/2" to 6" in 8 months, but at 6" slowed down alot. My black ghost knife also grew quick, from 1.5" to 7" in 9 months.

Arrow is out - that is bigger than I want to go.

I had a couple fronts - but wasnt sure if I just wasnt feeding enough. Tank will have sump filtration and massive h2o changes weekly. Planning on going barebottom with lots of driftwood and silk plants. Might also have an eheim.
