Fat, Floating Dinosaur Bichir

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My tropheus has eaten a few ocats and I haven't lost any yet.

I buy a bunch for my planted tanks and when they're done I net them one by one into my troph tanks. Some make it, others are done for as soon as they hit the water.

Survival of the fittest

Thanks, everyone. I feel like a complete idiot asking those types of questions (and posting in the wrong forum -_-). We've always had a tank full of Chiclids, so this Bichir is completely new territory for me.

Since I didn't get any kind of reply on the day of my post, I kept a close eye on him throughout the day. By that night , his condition seemed to improve but just barely. I fasted him for three days, and he's back to acting like himself :)
I also had a moment of realization and remembered that I can't put salt in my planted tank.

Leviathan gets along well with the Otos. They're too big for his mouth right now. Though The raw food -has- seemed to make him a little more aggressive, so we'll see how that works out. :)

Everyone was new to some sort of fish at some point, no worries.

Also, watch him when he eats. If I am not mistaken, that's gravel in your profile picture? Bichirs have very poor eyesight, and are known to sometimes grab the substrate by accident. If he swallows a rock, it may lead to digestive problems, and possibly death. Its not very often that happens, but when its feeding time I would just pay close attention to him. Most the time they realise its a rock and will spit it out.

Other than that everything should become second nature in no time. Bichirs are my favorite, if your like me, you'll become hooked in no time (Unfortunately I have no money atm, so I cannot afford my Bichir obsession :().

Looks like a nice Poly though, any pictures?

good call. i was going to suggest fasting... my sens always loved frozen foods. see what happens if you. add some nightcrawler cut into small peices.... they will go nuts. my sens where rather adept predetors, not just scavengers. great first bichir!
