anyone know how expensive they are liek the price of a average feeder goldie, would feed them prolly once a week would it be worth to try and breed them or just to buy them, how fast are the turnoverrates breeding wise
thanks for any input

By me they are the same price as feeder goldfish. I don't know about breeding them. I would say if you are feeding a lot it would be easier to just buy them. But if you only feed one or two every couple of weeks for a treat like I do, I have an extra tank I just keep feeder guppies in and let them breed.

I pay at my Local Pet Shop like $2.25 cents for like 25 Feeders. I mean that is like dumb cheap!!!!! I dont see how anyone could not afford to buy feeders weekly. Trust me dont breed Rosy Red Minnows lol  Just buy the feeders!

well, you may be out a lot more money when one of those cheap feeders brings a disease with them that infects or kills your fish.

I agree. That's why I only feed as a treat and use my own guppies.

yea i know there pretty cheap i can get around like 6 cents for a feeder but im not taking anychances with disease are baitshop minnows any better, i already have aton like over 500 minnows that i use everyweekend for northern pike on the ct river

they can carry a lot of internal and external parasites, including fish lice and leeches. any fish that is not meant to live for an extended period of time/normal lifespan, like feeders and baitfish, is not raised to the same standards as a "pet' fish would be.

ok thanks i didnt think they would be that much better than goldfish

personally I think breeding guppies would have a higher turn over rate than rosey reds. If you want to buy feeders, you can quarantine them for a few weeks to make sure there are no parasites on them, but I think most of the time it's just easier to breed guppies, you can feed them at any size, so if your fish need smaller fish, feed them when they are still young, or you can let them grow out. Also, cons breed pretty quickly I've heard they make good feeders, but are very fast and harder for your fish to catch than guppies.

yea ive had some con feeders that have ended up surviving in a tank with fish that were suppose to eat them
