faulty aga glass????

those look like scratches too. I have never heard of cracks happening in straight regular lines like that. your close up has a rough edge to it, not characteristic of a crack. it may look like cracks, but I don't think thats what those are. looks like something has been raked across the surface, scratching it. can anyone else verify? to me they do not look like cracks.

check out this thread for an example of a crack:

it looks totally different.

Yea they do look like scratches. I've never seen tank cracks that originate from the middle of the glass. I suppose it could happen, though. I think that if those were cracks, they'd spread across the glass pretty fast.

well the only way to prove they are minute cracks would be for you to fly out here but thats not going to happen. the 400 is full of scratches, i know the difference between scratches and cracks. cracks can easily originate from a center point out caused by trauma. if i could catch the image properly on my shiety camera it would be easy to tell there cracks.

why and how they are there, i have no idea. but whoever built a 4' tall tank out of 1/2" glass is insane to begin with. i would love to tell myself they are just scratches, but i cant because their not. perhaps they started as scratches, but the water pressure of 4' with 1/2" glass caused the beggining of splintering outwards.

anyways, im not trying to argue, was just wondering if anybodys seen anything like it.

Well if they are cracks, I'd be asking Aqueon whats going on. That pattern does appear to be stemming from the manufacturing process.

a 4 foot tall 400 gallon with only half inch glass? holy crap don't ever fill that one up!
im not lol. although its been full many times, i wont do it. im flipping it and replacing some panels to make it 5'x4'x33". its a project, esp if i want to do it right, but it'll get done. the front panel is 1" though, this tank was made for a hotel, so the front is thick to avoid people breaking it by banging on it.

and to toddo, the 400 isnt an aqueon, but an old custom tank.
