Favorite cichlid!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Since there are over 2000 separate species of cichlids worldwide, even finding a favorite genus is hard for me.
For Central Americans alone, I'd have a hard time deciding between the genus Chuco, Theraps, Astatheros and Tomocichla.
Throw in the Madagascans of Paretroplus and the Indian Etroplus, it's really a conundrum.

Out of what we've kept or bucketlist ?

Bucket list?
I have 3, and they've been on it for over a decade.
Nandopsis ramsdeni
Iranocichla hormuzensis and
Heterochromis multidens.
I had 2 others on the list, but they're in my tanks now
Theraps lentiginosum

and Chuco micropthalmus

If I could only have one, it would be an Oscar. I will never be with out at least one.

Carpintis for me.

Tough call probably vieja argentea

Blood parrot cichlid. I know its controversial but they can be mixed with so many different stockings, come in all kinds of forms and colors and are very interactive fish.

If I had to choose an actual naturally occuring species I would probably go with Hypselacara temporalis AKA the Chocolate cichlid. They have colors that oscars can`t achieve and a very similar disposition

+1 for Convict
