Favourite earth Eaters?

We must have similar tastes Rob.
I have been considering a pair of biffas with my helleri.
Helleri are very wide spread and can be found with no less than 18 other cichlid species.
A biotope around this thorichthys offers plenty off biotope options.

The colors pop and would compliment each other well.

They do.
The only downside for me with c/a's is the lack of available tetras.
Astyanax are very rarely available here in the UK.
If you like biotopes s/a gives a much more varied choice of tankmates.

Mine favourites are now this beauties on foto: Satanoperca mapiritensis
(I bought them as Satanoperca leucosticta and Satanoperca jurupari.

But I think Satanoperca acuticeps and Gymnogeophagus rhabdotus are nicer, but I just can't get mine hand on them.

A lot of people told me so: http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/threads/id-satanoperca.651165/ (plus some people with a lot of experience with Satanoperca on Slovak forum cichlidklub.sk). I don't have fish on photo any more. This old group was bought as Satanoperca jurupari.

Now I have group bought as Satanoperca leucosticta. Some photos of young fish are in thread I posted link and one newer here. I have extremely dark tank now (weak lighting, a lot of floating Amazon Frogbit plants, .... ). Its impossible to make good photo now.

Same in the U.S. Though Jeff Rapps has had them before. I have astyanax bimaculatus which are found most of SA and Panama. That's close as I could get. I don't understand why more astyanax species are available.
