do no that the only fish that can live in there for life is the poly, its just to last them about 3 or so years. until i can get a large aquarium built, or find the aquarium sealant available in canada.

i think im gonna use playsand for sure

three years on the cats won't do. a RTC will outgrow that tank in less then 18 months of feed right. You have to many bottom dwellers. hell the ray alone will take up 1/5 or more of the tank bottom in less then 2 years. and you have like 6 bottom dwellers. You should rethink your stock.


Now back on track. I like the clean bottom look either bare or tile. It's easy to maintane and looks good. if done right.

I am just curious what everyones favourite substrate to use is.
I was at my lfs and one of the employes told me that play sand works like a charm.the reason i am asking is becuase i am getting a new tank soon its 150 gal the stock will be, 1 redtail cat fish,1 rtxtsn catfish, 1 false tigrinus catfish,1 tiger shovel nose catfish,1 motoro stingray,1 silver aro,1 clown knife,and a polypterus.would play sand be the best bet or should i suse something else.

3m Color quartz S grade is my favorite substrate.

ur crazy if ur gonna buy a 150 for those fish.... most of them need 300 gal+

not only is it too small for them, its way too over stocked.... its a recipe for disaster...

they wont survive 1 year in there let alone 3!!!!

pool filter sand. but have a new substrate i'm trying tomorrow. it's this tiny black gravel. i'll post pics.

oh and stocklist is a big problem, get the ray, the poly, and the jurenese only. then start looking for a bigger tank immediately. is it a 150 brick? meaning 4x2x2.5? that would be your best start...
