Hes going to be alone with a oscar or blood parrot. I will make sure he has lots of caves.

In a 100 gallon I'm sure that's gonna be fine, on a side note these catfish are aggressive eaters. My friend once had 6 the size of an inch and a half. He fed them blood worms and didn't realize that they will keep eating past being full. They all developed a bloated stomach and floated to the surface and died so just make sure your feeding small quantities at a time even with those bigger fish because most likely they will beat your cichlids to the food. Good call adding a cave hell most likely hang out there most of the day. Mine stayed in his main spot but when he saw me he would come to the front of the glass and hang out. What are you making the cave out of rocks or driftwood?

He is in a hundred gal now, he will be in a fifty-five with one or the other of the big cichlids.

He hangs out in my lava rock caves mostly. He eats when the others. Trust me my barbs and angelfish eat most of the food. I throw in some pellets when I turn the lights off so he has food

They won't eat the plants but they may uproot them depending on what type of plants you have, they can be plant friendly though. Anything robust like Amazon swords would be fine with them. Either way a 100 or 55 should be able to house the fish but the 100 would be more ideal as I've seen these catfish get up to 10 inches. These fish at that 8-10" mark also look a lot bigger with how robust they get. As always watch aggression with those bigger cichlids essentially the catfish has no real defense. I would put him with the blood parrots over the ebjd

Bloodworm spoil easy and cases of lethal poisoning are not uncommon. Those who have fallen the victim become much more choosy where and who they get their frozen bloodworms from.

Just another hypothesis on the abovementioned die-off.

The problem is in the production control. If the production quality is not rigorously maintained, the worms start spoiling, then get frozen, shipped, and sold.

The brand name (and the LFS if buying from an LFS) must be reputable, which perhaps also means that the price may be higher. LFSs usually don't stock several bloodworms kinds, so either the LFS carries a good brand and a bit more expensive, or the cheaper one and then it's a gamble.

But anyhow, this is not so much related to the topic. Just an offshoot.
