Well, I fed my first feeders to the bichirs last night. Well I tried to anyway, they are in a 55 with my juvie cichids. I don't think I have ever seen my senegal bichir move that fast. He didn't manage to catch it but he sure gave it his all. When I went back in after I had turned the lights off, my ornate had grabbed the remaining one though. How often do you guys feed them feeders? I primarily feed Hikari sinking carnivore pellets and small bits of shrimp, just wanted to give them a little treat.

I stopped feeding feeders because I didn't have a Q-tank but now that I do, I'll be giving them feeder shrimp/minnows/goldfish twice a month to allow for full quarantine.

I fed my senegal this first feeder about 1 month ago. And thats the only one he has gotten in all 10 months that he has been kept will me.

Thats what we wound up doing, we have a tank set up for the feeders. We usually use them for the snapping turtle.

Good practice. Are you treating the feeder tank proactively?

I will be dosing mine with 2tsp salt per gallon (gradually raising salinity 1/4 tsp/gallon once an hour).

I'm thinking about dosing with parasite and fungus clear, since a $4 box will last 4 months. (I'm only using a 10g tank for quarantine).

This batch I just went with the salt and kept an eye on them. I have a seperate quarantine for new/sick fish that I did treat proactively with parasite guard. Right now it's housing my delhezi and two rope fish. It's absolutely killing me not to just throw them in the 55 thats up and running and then transfer them to the other 55 I'm setting up.

 I hear ya. That's how I felt when I first started to quarantine new fish baaack in the day.

Rest your mind knowing that when you do finally transfer the fish, you know for sure you're not compromising your main setup.

Lets see some pics of what's in the Q-tank :headbang2 I love ropes.

I'll have to get some good ones taken, but as soon as I do, I'll post some pics.

mine aren't big enough to eat feeders yet

if the stores around here still had feeder guppies I would feed them those. They are small and *seem* to be a hell of a lot healthier than rosies and gold fish. My friend never lost fish due to sick guppies and neither have I. He has, however, lost fish to poor feeder goldfish and rosies.

How big are you bichirs now? I'd be comfortable feeding the smaller goldfish (after quarantine) to my seng after it hits 5"
