Fed up with Eheim and Fluval canister filters

I've had similar issues with canisters. They simply just decline in function too fast for their price. I have over the backs that are over 20 years old that still push water at what appears to be the same insane volume. Mean while my relatively young marine land seems to struggle to push water when in pristine order.

I'd just give up on canisters. The ADA filters are not for normal people but people with money to burn. I'd say if quality of filtration and functionality is your concern its time to sump! You can build a very efficient easily serviced superior sump alternative for not much money with a simple visit to target and homedepot.

Imo exp and others ive only heard bad things about marineland canisters/products. I wouldnt let them ruin ur opinion of good quality canisters.

Eheims worked great for me. I only had to replace an O ring on one of my 4 filters so far.

Really Kamikazie? I've been a fan of AquaClears since I started in the hobby (about 6 years), but lately, the filters I have have been giving me issues. The impellers are getting stuck (even when replaced with new ones), the flow drops off drastically, without regard to the number of fish in the tank/how dirty the water is, and I'm having issues with them not coming back after the power is turned off. I have to actually physically clean them to be able to get them to restart.

I hooked up an FX5 to my 220g when I moved last May, and I've only had to clean it once. It maintains perfect water quality, and I have yet to notice a reduction in flow. It also starts right back up no matter what after its been turned off.

I haven't had my Eheim Classic canisters long enough (less than a month) to really give a judgement on them, but I've heard nothing but glowing, positive reviews about them. Several members on here have mentioned they've been running for 10, 15, years in some cases.

In my experience Eheim classics have been the most quiet and reliable.

I have used and I do not like Jebo, Fluval, Rena, and Aquaclears.

The penn plax cascades are actually pretty good canisters.

I haven't tried the aquatops yet but I wouldn't trust it with my fish.

Eheim pro II worked great for me. I did have to clean the impeller and house every 3-6 mons for better flow though.

I have found the Eheim Classics to last a very long time. I've never owned a Fluval, so I can't comment.

If you want a heavy-duty filter that will last forever get a NuClear and An Iwaki pump. Ten or twenty years is the minimum I would expect from this setup.

My fluval fx5 has been going strong for over 2 years without being opened. Works for me

I had Fluvals in the 90's they stunk so I graduated to Eheim canisters...I hated that every time I cleaned them there was a leak in the hose connecters or lid so I dropped hundreds of dollars on an Eheim Pro3 2080. This thing is mosterous but after 2 years it started leaking!!

I'm done. I Put two AC110s on my 150 gallon tank and never looked back. I need to clean them every 2 months or so but it takes less than 10 minutes and they do this funny thing....they work and don't leak!!!
