I'm wondering if it is an algae bloom or just ammonia from big fish/small tank and overfeeding.

agreed plus if you have addequate bilogical filtration it will help to outcompete the algae for food and air

I am getting fed up with the algae in my buttikoferi tank.I am constantly doing water changes and wiping glass.what can it be.It seems to clear up after water changes and the next day its cloudy.

Here are two solutions:

1. Plecosomas'

2. Snails

plus a bonus: golden algae eaters

the tank is a 40 long.for filtration there are two ac 50 filters.I only feed it once or twice a day.I am constantly doing water changes and i am really ticked about it. I leave the light on from about 5:00 to 7:00 in the morning.

For green water in the short term you can use a 50 micron pad in your filter with both pro-clear and crystal clear at the same time. This will bind up the algae and remove it, but it not solve the problem long term. You need to check phosphate, nitrate and silicate levels and address them accordingly with chemical filtration (phosgaurd, pura-phoslock, rowaphos,ect). If you have more money to blow, you can buy a uv filter, gaurenteed to make the water crystal clear. Good luck.

Yes, I would suggest getting a UV filter for all of your fish that are in to small of tanks.
