alright guys i know theres a bunch of threads out there about feeders and ect. but i cant find the right answers to my questions. First off my fish wont eat anything dead, pellet looking, or worm like. It has to swim for them to eat it. Ive tried to train them to eat other food like worms, but they just spit them out. Yes, i have tried to starve them for a week and half sometimes two, and they still spit it out. I end up wasting my money on high quality food that they don't eat.

They are now eating Rosy's and guppies. But they are getting really big and they eat like 7-10 each or more! So i was thinking on getting something bigger other than feeder goldfish.

1. balloon mollies ( all kinds ) they sell them really cheap around where im from.
2. giant zebras 2 1/2 inch and fat ( 2.50 a pop )

3. neon tetras ( 2inch ) 5 for 4 bucks 20 for 11.99

4. any other small cheap fish besides gold fish feeders.

I dont mind spending money on food. i have a 55 gal set up just for assorted community feeder fish. And I also have a 30 gal for quarantine and parasite removal for any new feederfish bought.

I just wanted to get your guy's input on anything about this. Thanks again.

Check out your local bait shop. They usually sell golden shiners up to about 5-6" length around here, and they're quite cheap. You may have different bait species in your area, but any of them should be fine as feeders.

shiners. yes! thanks, i will add that to my buffet.

As healthy as LFS feeders, anyway. If you have a friend with a stocked pond you might talk him into letting you put out some minnow traps to get fatheads and juvenile sunnies. If you want to collect in streams or lakes you'll need a fishing license and a copy of your local fishing regulations.

how about just getting a package of frozen smelt and see if they go for it when you drop it in after not feeding for a few days and if they need visual stimulation getin some kind of small stick n poke it through the feeder and wiggle it

i tried that with tilapia. tied it to a string, waved it around like a fish would swim, Gar WENT FOR IT!!, .. Chewwed... then spit it out. DAmn. sinks to the bottom for the catfish.. boooooo

Oh your trying to feed a gar? Mine when I had him was extremely picky. He'd take shrimp but if it wasn't cut up small enough for him he wouldn't eat it. Have you tried shrimp? You could go to a bait shop and get the big ones. Of course they are saltwater, but just get what you need, they will swim around in there. Or go to Wal Mart and get some frozen shrimp.
