I usually turn my filters off for about 20 minutes while I feed the fish.

Is this OK????????

I have Acqua Clear 110 HOB's and Fluval Canisters.

Please advise. Thanks!

It's fine. You may not really need to though, depending on what type of fish you're keeping and what you're feeding them.

it's ok to do that. i turn mine off when i feed my RTC, not for 20 min.

I shold have mentioned that I have freshwater, South American Cichlids (Oscar, Green Terror, etc..).

I just wondered if the bacteria wold die without the circulation. I also feel like I am giving the filters a rest.

WHY do u think u need to turn off the filters ? Just seems unusual to me i have ac110 on sa/ca tanks as well the only time i turn them off is far a WC. The bacteria will not die because it is still submerged in the water left in the filter.

Yep, bacteria will be fine.

i do it because i feed my cats huge chunks of shrimp, mussles, pellets, ect.
i don't want the food going into the filters.

I corrected this problem with these two things:

1 - move the effluent on your filter to create a figure 8 motion rather than an O
2 - Feed less, more often

none of what you feed will end up in the filters. even if a chunk got stuck to one im sure a fish would come pick it off

Personal preference man. Unless one of the fish is having a tough time feeding I keep them on. If it is flake food, I would turn it off if you have a lot of surface aggitation. I turn my marine tank off. All my fresh I keep on.
