Feed w Filters Off?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Oh sorry, btw 20 min is not a problem at all. If 20 min killed something in your tank you had a serious problem to begin with.

Thanks for the comments!

This is evidence that I probably feed too much.
I will try and feed less, more often.
I will continue to turn the filters off for my messy Oscar.

I personally think that is completely unnecessary and may actually be hazardous.

For starters, turning electric applications on and off just doesn't sound like good a idea. What if you (for whatever reason) doesn't remember to turn it back on?

If your filter is so powerful and generating so much water movement that your fish food is being sucked up, then I'd suggest that you may be over aerating your water.

I suppose you're keeping big fish, so I'd assume you're feeding foods that are a good sized chunk, which should sink immediately to the bottom without any issue, so I really don't think your filter should have the capacity of sucking up the food (unless you're dumping it right in front of the filter intake, which would be simply stupid)... or maybe your tank may be too small to the point where the filter intake has enough power to draw in everything that's floating in your water.

Either way, why would you go through the extra step of unplugging your filter and plug it back in. Not to mention if you (again, for whatever reason) don't remember to turn it back on, you risk losing everything.

It's unnecessary.
