if you have a yard ...howz about you get a 100 gallon tub , throw in a dozen mosquito fish and some plant cover ... easy feeders. they're super hardy . it will only supply enough for snacks though .

my oscars love dog food pellets for treats im gonna try a burger one day,
the dog food is a little dirty but it works

nah man dont take these advice from these slobs throwing burgers and mayonase in your tank. That's nasty. If you want to do beef, just smash lean beef for them. Burgers got the fat and grease into your water. Might as well dumb Sloppy Joes in the tank too then

I use guppies and mollies. I also have some Convict Hybrids I'll be using their fry for feeders when they start breeding. Sure it takes a while, but I use mine as occasional treats for my fish. About every 3-4 months to maybe a bit longer. Grow your own is the best, because you know they're healthy and not going to pose any health threats to your fish.

Wow! I am surprised this thread hasnt been bashed yet due to the fish abuse. I personally do not care what you feed your fish but if you are asking for advice I wouldnt feed it human food, as funny as it is ;)

I feed my cichlids all hikari pellets and spirulina brine shrimp. There are many reasons why feeding live fish is a bad idea. I guess you can only see what the effects of feeding feeders vs. pellets is over time but you can find many articles online about the effects of feeder fish, personally grown or from the store, on your big fish.

Well, they don't exactly get pellets in the wild do they? They eat other smaller fish. Sure there may not be a lot of benefit nutrition wise, but it allows your cichlids to be cichlids and hunt. Plus, hybrid fish... aren't always welcomed in LFS's. There is one I could take mine too, but I don't shop there all that much to use a store credit on fish. Mine have only had feeder fish once since I've had them and they've had Ghost Shrimp 2 times. So 3 live treats spread out over 10 months isn't over doing it.

I was being sarcastic if you can believe that :screwy: I was also showing the immature and undereducated things I did as a kid when starting to keep fish....

Well if you really want to breed something for food I say Comets. Get some healthy feeders at your pet store, wait about six months. Then bump the temp up 15F over a couple days and they'll spawn like nuts. Have insuforia ready.
But trust me, it ain't cheaper than buying them for .12$ a pop, and disease can pop up in fish that have been born and raised in your own tanks.
