has anyone ever eaten one of their larger fish? (ie. Oscar, Jag, JD, etc). If so, how did they prepare it and how did it taste?

I only ask because, i was watching a TV show that a guy ate his favorite "pet" reindeer after it died. maybe ill do it when my fish pass. lol

Most fish would be poisonous if you put prime or other chemical in the water. If you read the back of most aquarium items, it says it's for ornamental fish only. I did eat a pet crab that I caught in virginia once. I didn't put any chemicals in the water, though.

This is a messed up question.....

I don't think I could eat a pet, though I'm not against the idea totally. (It would sort of be like raising chickens to eat in a way).

I think there was a user with the name 'monster fish eater' or something, and I think he ate his fish when they got too big (could be wrong, I just remember the name and someone saying he did).
Edit - just realised the person in the thread above is who I'm talking about.

I know there was a topic with someone eating their pacu, they added lemon I think.

But I also would advise caution, I've heard some meds can cause cancer.

It just seems wrong because the fish are in tank water not in the wild and you feed it prepared food and live feeders that could have disease and then you eat it... Just seems unsanitary but i guess the heat of cooking kills the germs. LOL

There are quite a lot of wet pets that can be eaten. Pacu, RTC, Oscars, Dovii, Arapaima, Channel Cat, Plecs, etc.

Yup. Channel cats are tasty.
