so ive got 2 oscars that eat ALOT. im feeding them shrimp, pellets, feeders, occasional fruits/veggies about 2-3 times a day when im home. i work for 3 days at a time without going home so my fiancee feeds them, i think she only feeds them once a day tho. im looking at adopting my friends oscar because hes getting deployed. so that will be 3 big mouths to feed. anyway, since ive tranfered all my fish over to a 75 gallon, ive got an empty 29 gallon that id like to use for feeders. 1. its costing me alot of money to buy feeders every week 2. i dont want to bring disease and parasites into my 75. whats the best fish to do this with with price and breeding rate in mind. ive heard mollies are good cause they breed fast, but i cant see them as being feeders for some reason. so im open to any and all suggestions. thanks

Actually I'm thinking about mollies because they are big, (usually) don't go after their own babies, and they are livebearing. You will have to get them started but there are some strains that are cheaper than fancy guppies i.e. gold dust mollies, dalmations ect.. The only downside is that they aren't as hardy but I only see that as a friendly challenge. But to feed as the main source of food I don't really see any financial benefit in breeding them cause of the room, food, heat, and care that is required. Use them as a weekly treat and try to get them on pellets!
well thats what ive got them on now is pellets and shrimp. its just that when i do give them feeders they eat alot. ive got a whole 29g tank setup with a few goldfish to keep it cycled while im figuring this out. not only do i want to have the tank for feeders, but i dont see the waste in not putting SOMETHING into my empty tank.
you really want a fast growing live bearing fish. i tryed breeding guppys for feeders but either my chick guppy is really fat or shes been pregnant for like 1.5 months the water is super clear and my ph is 8 so i don't know whats wrong haven't seen any lil babe gupps yet
