dang, highlighting quotes with colors, etc. is a hassle. LOL.

variety is the spice of life. my oscar grew fat and sassy on a mix of pellets and live. imo nightcrawlers are the best additive to most carnivorous cichlids diets.

I suppose we'll just have to agree to disagree on this one. I still say that unless a fish either can not be weaned off of live/non pellet food or has a special dietary need, a good quality pellet is all that is needed. And a few worms, krill, tillapia, and prawns aren't going to add anything that a good quality pellet doesn't already have in it.

Funny, my baby O (about 4 inches long) likes red wigglers more than cut shrimp, for now. I thought he'd like shrimp better.
;-)

Another thing to add:

With live worms, how do you ever know they are 100% free of parasites. Even if quarantined for some length of time and fed oatmeal, I'd still be too nervous of infecting my fish with parasites. But I'm probably overkill nervous about that.

And petspoiler, I'm sure you got the idea of my post. No need analyze every word.

analyze every word? you were the one arguing with ecoli's posts while misinterpreting what he actually said. so yeah, words have to be read correctly, or your replies are off-base..

LOL Another NLS fanboy. So testy.

Oscars I had would disagree with you ;) They spit out NLS and go for the krill and they were quite healthy when I had them.

How exactly did I mis-interperate this? He said "They spit out NLS and go for the krill"

Seems to me like he thinks they prefer the krill. My point was that it doesn't matter what they prefer. It matters what they need. And if they're spitting out NLS.....You're doing something wrong or haven't properly pellet trained them.

But again.....No need to read into every word. I'm sure your reading comprehension skills picked up on the point I was getting across.

I like happy mediums.

I choose freeze dried due to the fact that they are relatively disease free and with proper soaking, almost like the fresh ones. I have no time or space to buy/store/clean fresh worms. Also, chop up wigglers is simple in freeze dried fashion all you do is breaking them with your fingers; I can't imagine what would happen if my wife walk in to the kitchen while I was in the process of chopping up fresh worms.

As far as pellets are concerned, most fish will eat it fine; but I like the color, enthusiasm etc when i give them other stuff. I started to mix up stuff when my royal plecos and gold nuggets wouldn't eat the pellets...first time the royal died and after introducing fresh veggies, I didn't have any problems with vegetarian plecos not eating.

Now with my school of clowns, they eat pellets but certainly goes crazy over blood worms, tubefix worms and broken up krill. In between meals, they also rob significant amount of zucchini I hang for my plecos.

That's why I don't have pellets and krill at the same time per my prior post :P
