I would like to feed my big Silver something new, and he's never had frog before. I was wondering what species of frogs are acceptable as food, and where I might be able to find them for sale? I don't plan on doing this often, but I like to keep his diet as varied as possible..... plus, to be honest, I would kind of like to watch him eat a frog.

Any help would be appreciated!

I lived in a rural area in Missouri, and tree frogs were everywhere. At night they would gather on the giant picture window to eat the bugs that were coming to the light. I would feed my jar and SA one a week for the summer. They scarfed them right down. No idea what species they were, just a domestic tree frog from central US.

I'd love to be able to walk out and grab a fresh frog, but I'm located in suburban Hell: just a bunch of townhouses. Good to know that the domestic frogs are safe, now I just have to figure out where to grab them without paying an arm and a leg.

I think I read that some lizards are ok as food too. Any idea which ones so I can take a look next time I go to the pet store?

African dwarf frogs and Asian house geckos would be ok. Very expensive though.

Occidozyga Lima; Indonesian floating frogs. I used to feed them to my channa. Your LFS can probably order them in.

I read a thread on here about a guy breeding african clawed frogs for feeders. Not much more then feeder goldfish. Do a search and try and find him. He was talking about going big time commercial with it. And they would be hardy if you stored them.

I have fed my ck an african dwarf frog. He was hesitant at first and im not surprised as many frogs are poisonous. I am hesitant to feed him another kind, but we get bullfrog tadpoles in feeder shipments. Would this be okay?

I would. I have used tadpoles for fish bait, and I know people use frogs for bass fishing. They are a natural food for lots of fish. Frogs lay their eggs in water so things that live in water are going to eat them, right?
