I want to start breeding feeder guppys but really don't know how to start and what I need any advice would help. The only things I have is an old 10 gallon tank a heater and a basic hang on filter.

1. Cycle the tank (ignore step 1 if tank is already cycled)
2. Buy plants and some decor.
3. Decorate and setup the tank.
4. Buy 1 or 2 males and 4-6 females.
5. Let nature take it's course.

You have all that you need, guppies do not need any help to breed, in fact I couldn't stop mine from breeding...

But yeah about 4 females to 1 male, and keep an extra tank ready, once you have about 20 females popping em out you won't have room.

Or better yet have a fish ready to eat the fry.

I've got a bunch of large elephant ear plants growing in my 20L gallon guppy tank. The roots are now running along the bottom above the gravel. It gives the babies plenty of cover from parents.
