well i was at school, mom saw my feeder tank was dirty.. took windex and cleaned it apperantly some went into my tank killed over 5000 feeder guppies in less then 2min her eyewitness discription was they started floating.. i come home she says not my problem and i get yelled at because she said she was trying to help but now have to sleep on it and im in trouble for yelling and somehow manage to get another 5000 by monday.. or my cichla are done.

Flickerdoodles..

:screwy::screwy: they should make a anti aquarium damaging windex or in general cleaners..

haha lol i feel sorry you you. That is kind of funny though. I had the same experience with breeding shrimp, my mom decided to use a razor to scratch off the drid algae off the glass and apparently the soap on the towel to clean it killed a couple shrimp before i came home to change the water

that sucks! use vinegar to clean the glass of your aquariums. It works just as well as windex and you would have to get a bunch of it in the water before it harmed anything. I use vinegar to clean most things, it really works pretty well and its organic.

That sucks man, what a waste of hardwork.

Sorry the Hijack your thread, but I think i messed up. Setting up an aquarium for the first time I made the mistake of spraying the outside of my tank with tonnes of Windex. Some defiantly got inside the tank. But this was when nothing was in it, just an empty tank. After 3 or so days gravel and water was placed in. I wiped the inside with water before I did all this. Should I be worried tht my water is posined? If so how can I tell it is?

windex is perfectly safe to use on the outside of your tanks... just spray your washcloth/papertowel/newspaper that you're using to wipe the tank with rather than the tank itself, unless you throw your dirty rag into the tank there's no real way it's going to get in the water.

am i doing a wrong thing? I have a 4" mono right now and have been feeding it mostly pellet, Hikari bio gold sinking and massivore.. along with some raw meat stripes..

But is feeder a requirement?

BTW.. sorry I high jack your thread.. sorry for your lost and suffering.. :(

O.o You sure it was the windex?.... I generally use white vinegar as well to clean my tanks, works great on that white nasty build-up w/ the hard as rocks water we have here.. BUt I digress.. I use the vinegar 'cause i'm a cheap skate... it would take more 'n a spritz or 2 of windex to kill off an entire tank of guppies imo, and ime. I mean anything is possible.. and wth you yelling at your mom for? she was trying to be helpful! you catch more flys w/ honey my grandma always told me. "It's not that I don't appreciate you wanting to help me mom, but this is my responsability." and then tell her you love her.. It works.. I had to use that one myself. I got the whole " You're growing up and being responsible" response.. =D

Let's see...Yell at Mom who is trying to help?

Yup that would have costed me a severe beating about the lips and face, and I probably would have to replace the feeder tank as well...

Moms have a way of cleaning what needs to be clean, they really don't waste time cleaning "clean" stuff...Maybe you should keep it cleaner so it doesn't attract the "MoM-dar"??!?

Just think of what your ass would be like if she didn't keep your diaper clean??

What size of tank and filtration do you have for 5000 guppies, seems that is alot of feeders even if they are .25" long.
That's still 1250 inches of fish
