i always feed my polys with feeders, molies, swordtail, platies, feeder trained since juvies, i already noticed a pattern of fish likely to be picked on and eaten first, the fancier or brighter the color the feeder has, the worse chance of getting snag, the dull colored ones enjoys to be the dessert in the menu. but lately my polys are not anymore drawn to eat dull colored feeders anymore, even they are the last fish swimming. i always end up netting them out in the tank and putting them back in my pond. and replace it with feeders like black molies, you wont see them swimming the next morning like the dull feeders. has anyone here have the same case?????:screwy::confused:

My Delhezi and Senegals go after anything, bright flashy colors or dull grey doesn't matter to them, I guess they all must smell the same. Mine nips are even larger fish then the polypterus. I have a 9" senegal and it trys to get ahold of a 10-12" Bala shark almost every day.

feeders are a bad choice for a main diet for polys. It can introduce disease to the tank, it can increase the aggression of the poly and feeders aren't very nutritious either.

poly usually hunts at night, and when they're hungry, anything that fits in their mouth are within the menu. If your poly refuses to eat, its perhaps they're just not hungry yet. But they will eventually go after those feeders. Just becareful with feeders, they may contains bacteria. You could try removing all feeders out of the tank, and leave the poly a few days without feeders, then put the feeders back in.

thats what i have in mind, they hunt tru scent of the prey, thats what puzzling me, why does a black molly in particular put in the tank wont last a night, but a dull gray one will just be swimming even or a week in the tank. dull colored feeders dont smell tasty????
