I have a few extra tanks I'm not currently using so I'm taking my 65g in my garage and stocking it with rosy red minnows for my mono bass. How many would someone say I can stock in there and more importantly what should i use to medicate them with. Thanks.

I have 4 Rosey Red Minnow in a 20 long unheated as a experiment and they are very hardy and easy to care for. I do biweekly wc's and feed them carefully. It's really going to be what type of filtration and wc routine. Also testing your parameters and figuring how many your setup can handle. API General Cure and something for bacterial infections but tbh I don't know what for bacterial.

If you see how they are packed in the store, I would say to divide that density in half and you have a safe amount.
May I suggest guppies? Easier to breed, not bony, and doesn’t contain thyaminise, which is harmful to fish long term.

Thank you that is such a great idea! I never even thought about that. I bought minnows but when they are gone i will buy guppies. Already about 15 fish died. They keep getting stuck in the filter. I put a sponge on it and they still get stuck to that.

Maybe the filter is too strong?

I'm not sure? It's a hang on back aqueon quiet flow 70. I have a smaller aqua clear maybe I should switch them? I thought the fish died because they aren't healthy then when they float they get sucked onto the sponge. I'm not sure though.

That filter shouldn’t be too much.
I’d bet on the fish just being unhealthy. Most feeders aren’t sold well.

A lot of them the gills are all red. Maybe the meds kill some too. Really can't say.

The scary part is I see how sick they are and i feed them to my bass. I don't really like to but he always barfs up worms

Red gills I think is ammonia burn or nitrite poisoning. Just doing lots of water changes should help. Stocking wise, I'd do like 65 in a 65, and see how that looks, how the filtration handles it, and then add or subtract as necessary.

I agree that you should go with guppies as they're more prolific and self sustaining in the long run.
