I see that you guys are against feeders. So what are you guys suppose to do when you have a fish that only takes live food such as a pike which i know may take prepared food . Also what about a mosiac gar or a barrcudda that will only take live food
not every one of us is agenst feeders, i for one am all for them. i would however recomend quarenteening them for a week or so before adding them to your tank. im currently dealing with an ICK outbreak because i didnot.
I agree with both aubicon & Delhezi222 except quarantine them for several weeks (preferably 1 month to check the ich cycle), and by this tme they should be breeding if you set the tank up right . Several 10g tanks at different stages of development and your set.
I use feeders as treats, not a staple. So I've always had a tank of guppies, typically one male and 3 females. This provides me a fairly steady supply of feeders.
If you want to use store feeders then keep a big bottle of aquari-sol on hand. Treat the feeders with Aquari-sol and always keep the weekly recommended dose in the feeder tank. It should eliminate ich or any external/external parasites in a couple days at 85 degrees.
What size do fish usually start eating feeders instead of flakes and bw? does an a gigas just grow five feet, then all of a sudden, they don't eat flakes any more? I'm sure it's not like that.
Gigas is too big for me, so I wouldn't know. The size of the food depends on the size of the fishes mouth. If it can fit it in its mouth and it wiggles, chances are it will be eaten.
How hard did you try to feed them dead foods? I sat for 1/2 hour at a time, several times a day, bouncing a shrimp off a string to get my wild-caught puffer to eat it. Took almost a week of doing this but now he grabs anything I put in her tank (except flakes).
