i agree with the breeding your own feeders "will be starting very soon" but i use guppies because my fish are still very small but they are still killers, fish eat other fish, thats nature, (and entertaining), my oscars also eat raw chicken breast out of my hand, "but thats just because its cool" processed food is good for a staple but i know i occasionally like a treat, so do fish.

I am not against using feeders but am cautious in doing so and avoid rosey reds and goldfish when possible due to thiaminase. I have kept many live food only type fish and find most take crickets, eartworms, scuds, fairy shrimp, and ghost shrimp just as happily as they do fish.
I have a 6 in butti , a 5 inch midas and a mosiac gar and a pike and a catfish . but the pike use to only eat live foods but now he will eat flakes , but the gar will only ear feeders
For my Monsters....I feed a staple of Hikari pellets, Bloodworms, Mealworms, Crickets, defrosted shrimp/prawns....I never buy feeders from the store...I always breed my own...Convict Cichlids are easy and very prolific....
animal cruelty.. humans are also feeders to giant crocs giant snakes and great white sharks.. don't do unto others (animals) if you don't want others to do unto you..

I live around a bunch of african breeders so i get free feeders and quite large often!!
use crickets or super worms their movements in the water is enough to trigger your gar or baracuda to eat them(that is if their hungry)
