Most of my rays will not eat anything but live food. I have gotten some of them to eat frozen talapia and pellets. But thats about it. Otherwise, really only like food is all they want.
I tried TM gel receipe and its still on going. And going to pick up some smelt today to see what they think of it. Mine just seem really picky.
Was wondering, I always see live feeder fish at my aqua shop. Thay are around 15 cents each. What do you guys think. And body have any ideas on this or other cheap live food for them.

I feed them now,
Talaipa
black worms
earthworms
pellets
and ghost shrimp as a smack

I say NO NO NO to feeders. They're full of disease etc. Unless you setup a feeder tank ( keep them in it, gut loading for at least 6 weeks ). Even then, I'd suggest not feeder goldfish, but perhaps a fast reproducing/growing cichlid. Just my opinion.

NO. The diet you have them on is great. Feeders are swimming parasite carriers that can cause vitamin deficiency's if fed to much. If you want to feed them feeders breed your own.

Aww geronimo69 beat me to the punch.

I did, but it's not a race to give good advice! :D

Speaking of feeders, that 55 gallon cray tank I have setup (that we're talking about in another thread), is just that. Feeders for my Ceylon and Fahake puffers...

OP.. If you live somewhere in Canada, I can probably ship you a bunch of convict fry:ROFL:. You'd have to pay the shipping....:naughty:

Ya, that was what I was thinking to. I have heard feeders are/can be parasite swimmers.. Thats why Ive never used them, but I figured Id ask to get a def answer from other ray owners.
The diet they are on now works, but I just have a few, mainly one of my female Motoro's who will not eat anything that is not live.. So she is basicly living on worms and ghost shrimp (as a snack from time to time) and I really want to give her more of a diet.
Im hoping the gel receipe (second try) works and the smelt works also.

I do have a exrta tank not being used. Guess I can start another breeding tank of somekind...

i was going to say the diet you already have going sounds great but i see the problem. i hope you find something that works, otherwise it's time to start breeding something safer then goldfish and rosey red minnows

I live in Missouri (USA)
Ill think of a good fast breeding fish to use and start that tank up.
Ive done that with my ghost shrimp already. Have not had to buy any of those for over 8 months. So I guess another good breeder tank wont hurt..
WIfe is going to hate me..lol another tank set up...:)

Tell me about it... I have 9 tanks.... 4 of which are feeders:) (snails, cons, crays, con fry).

ya, we have 7 tanks set up in the house and only one is a breeder tank. SO I guess making it a even 8 wont hurt..lol
