Feeders???

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
ive always fed feeders either rosies, goldfish, crays, or shiners. i do quarentine for some time and overload with chemicals, and lose probably half, but i know the rest are definately not infected, its nice because i thi k live food keeps fish agressive and strong. and definately not a staple food.

You're better off feeding frozen food (soak in vitamins as needed). I target feed my fish with tongs and they only eat various frozen foods (silverside, shrimp, squid, clam, etc)..no live food at all, and they are still 'aggressive and strong'. You can use feeders all you want, but it is for your own benefit (watching your fish hunt/feed) not really for the fish.

All my datnoids get stable when I feed them feeders. I'm in the process of setting up a 40 breeder for some tilapia so I have a constant supply.

That should be interesting.I don't recall hearing of anyone breeding tilapia as a feeder source.Do keep us posted...

What would be best for breeding? Convicts?

The only feeders my fish get are crays - which are raised in my basement in a 75 gallon tank (they're self cloning marmorkrebs) so there's no chance of disease or anything. Feeder goldfish are junk.

I'm not sure if convicts are found in areas where cichla are but they are probably the closest thing to what they eat in the wild.

I'd rather feed my Pbass Goldfish crackers and gummy worms than feeders :). Lets see where this goes:footinmou
