Feeding a baby pike

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i have about a 2" johanna "red pike" and he loves New Life Spectrum (the brand name). They are 1mm pellets. He destroys them...

So i tried to feed him bloodworms but he doesnt even look interested.
Im starting to get a little worried that he doesnt want to eat anything. :(

you must feed him swimming prey. brine shrimp would be ok but tiny guppies will work. you'd be amazed what they can eat. get the smallest guppys you can and i bet he hits them. make sure the light are low and he has hide spots.

Try live blackworms, these always get my finicky discus eating and are small enough for your pike.

try anything that moves and is small enough to fit in his mouth they are a predatory fish as soon as they hatch. they will not eat any thing dead they they stalk there prey prefibly smaller fish , also try earth worms if to big rip in half or small enough to eat but make sure the worm is still movin....

Not trying to get off subject but I was wanting some of those live blackworms and I can't find them anywhere locally if anyone knows where I can get them online send me a pm please. The vendor on here never replies to my messages.. I second the earthworm idea.

Ok so i gave him a living earthworm and he attacked it but then he just didnt attack it again and let it crawl away.

If you to to your LFS and look in their guppy tank, they might have tiny fry swimming around. Get the tiny fry and some adults for breeding. The pike needs something that stays up in the water column swimming around. Worms go to the bottom, crawl away and hide. You might not ever see him eat the fry but they will start to disappear. As said in a past post, giving the pike places to hide will make him more comfortable and want to eat.
