Hi, I have finally bit the bullet and spent $25 on a nice 5-6" Jag. I am almost done cycling my 75g and when it's done I'm putting him (hopefully a male) in there, he's in my 35g quarintine tank. My question to you is what do you feed yours and what kind of feeding schedule do you follow? Also I got him about three weeks ago, he i still kind of shy and when ever i go over to his tank he moves to the other side of the tank. How long will it take for him to get used to me?

Thanks
Mike

P.S. I'm sure there will be more questions to come.

Nothing unusual mike. Nothing unusual at all :)
Mine is about 8 to 10" long and been with me for a little more than a month, and till date I have never witnessed him eating his feed in my presence... The only comfort I derive is from the fact that I donot see any leftover food in his tank, and also I notice that he is putting on some body weight - that enough !!

Well everything sounds normal to me! Just ba happy that he isn't jumpy. I have had my bowfin for I think 5 months almost and he still freaks sometimes when I come to the tank. He is the oddest fish I own. Sometimes I will just be sitting there in my room completly still and he will freak and slam into the wall!:irked: Good luck on your jag!

I feed mine pellets, beefheart, shrimp, smelt, earthworms, and whatever else he grabs from the other fish. I only feed once a day, but I would feed the little guy a couple of times.

Sounds normal to me. I've raised my pair of jags (both 12" plus) from 2 inches and the male still flips out sometimes when I walk by his tank. Weirdest fish I've ever owned. I feed my pair cichlid gold pellets with the occasional beef heart and cricket. Mine are very voracious eaters, so I don't think it will take long for yours to warm up to you. Enjoy your fish!
Just to make sure... You do have plans for a larger tank within the next year or so? A 75 sounds a little snug to me, although I guess it will be fine as long as you don't plan on keeping anything else in there with him.

How long did it take for them to get that big?
