Bleeding;755927; said:This is exactly what i am concerned about...Disease....but in my tank, the fish show no sign of disease, but as i said earlier, i do not feel like they are breeding as rapidly as they should. As far as my cleaning habits:
I do a 30% water change 2x a week, which is a must or my nitrates go thru the roof and i will lose a fish per day or so...although i rarely EVER lose a platy, which is the supposed "killer fish" to the oscar, but the guppies i think are more sensitive. I use stress coat for water conditioner....i dont use "hot water" but i try to mix or whatever to get as close to the 76-78 degrees i keep in the tank when im putting it back. I have an Eheim 2028 filter (rated for 192 gallons i believe?) and i change the white fine filter on a regular basis, probably monthly if i had to be accurate.
My brothers habits are similar, but he keeps his tank colder than i do, and yes he does the same 30% twice a week, uses normal tap water with a conditioner...but i really dont think this is anything he did...i am really believeing this was my fish...
He did tell me that this happened to another oscar he had a long time ago, and he purchased some feeders from Petco, and almost the same thing happened (his feeders at that time were just regular gold fish)
If it is disease that you guys suspect, how do you test for such a thing???
Bleeding;754460; said:he just messaged me and said that his eyes and scales are turning white....and this is an albino oscar, so he is an orangish color normally.....
He also mentioned that the firemouth acts dead, then goes spastic, then acts dead, goes spastic.....etc
