once a week for my aro :D lol before you guys get all mad, dont worry, i've done thise with all my fish and they are completely fine.

So go post your advise in the "other fish" forums. You've had the aro for what, 3 weeks? That is hardly enough time to see the ill effects of your practices on that young growing aro:screwy:

Keeping health fish by starvation, I think not. Method only benefits the cheap or lazy fishkeeper not the fish being kept.

:ROFL:okk i will

yah, i agree
i have had arowanas for a long time and i still am on a learning curve, so are all of us, but by al means, i dont believe that an arowana fed once a week especially when young will be good.

granted someimes aros tend to starve themselves when they get on their fasting stages but only for a matter of days and between months of normal feeding.

perhaps you should reasses your feeding your arowana.

my observation on feeding regimes. Imo, let the aro eat as much as it wants although i found that:

1. when the aros (all types) is always full they tend to be quite unfriendly.
2. when asian aros are in solitary they are very picky eaters. I have blue base and red in solitary and they are really fickle eaters (with exception of meal worms they pick and choose from day to day - BB refuses to eat pellets even after two weeks starving - it broke me and i chose food until it ate). X-back used to be like that until i put him in a comm tank with silvers and paimas now he eats like a champ (all types fo food) and is FAT. HBRTG also fights and dashes for food during feeding - competion does wonders to eating. X-back is catching up with blue base now in size.
3. Jar is not affected by solitary or comm conditions - now in solitary still eats like a champ. Friendliness is a function of hunger for this guy.

I feed everyday all my fishes (except cats). I make sure that all fishes get reasonable amount of food (proportionate to tummy size) - from time to time i feed until refusal (usually prior to water changes).... paimas can be quite greedy (eat until puking).

My 2 cents

i am back to a feeding regime that wil se my aro eat as it wants.
funny though - my aro gets completely friendly when its full.
it leaves everything alone, ignoring them, just swimming.
when hungry, its more on edge and competitive.
i do agree though, they are more picky whben solitary.

sorry mate, let me clarify. "friendly" means interactive with the owner e.g. coming to the front of the aquarium and following the owner up and down the length of the aquarium ^^

I absolutely agree that when the fish is full they are nicer to their tank mates

Same here.. my 18" silver usually gets a snack of hikari sticks for breakfast and then all-he-can-eat superworms or rainbow trout fillets for dinner. He's a happy aro when he's full and he has ALOT of tankmates who are never harassed.

the only tankmates that my rtg goes for at times are the two red hook metynis - when tey get up on its face it gets angry.
but the oscar is literally on the face of the rtg no worries
