I just bought two 1" cichlas, set me back only $6. They seem to be pecking at the cut up sinking Hikari pellets i feed to my 2" polypteruses, but don't actually swallow it. Was wondering, what should i feed cichlas that small?

How small were the guppies when you fed them to the cichlas? I tried putting some small guppies in but neither had any interest, could it be because i just put them into the tank not long ago and they're still getting used to their new surroundings? They look really skinny and the color on them is really faded. I'm afraid if i don't get them to eat soon they'll die. Oh and they're in a tank with three 2.5" polypteruses and one 5" florida gar. None of the fishes bother each other at all.

Live blackworms are great for little ones. It will put some weight on them fast. Don't put any trust in that gar either. Sooner or later, it'll make a snack of your little ones.

I've got black substrate, don't think the cichlas kids will be able to see the blackworms. And i've got another question, should i leave the lights on while feeding or does it affect their sight? Mine's a simple 16W fluorescent.

my peacock bass would never turn down some guppies

Are your PB 1" like mine?

if they are already showing interest in pellets i wouldn't bother with live, it will save you the trouble of converting them later

Unfortunately they didn't make it through the night. Found both of them dead this morning. No signs of foul play. Were probably too weak when i got them anyway.

how's water ocndition adn where you buy ah ? .. so cheap meh lol.
2ndly ... 1" pb vs 5" gar... not great... getting chased by the gar will be bad too.. their still young.

Can easily stress them out.

I got mine at 2"... they grow up really fast at tat size
