Hi! I have finally managed to get my hands on three EBJDS! :) :headbang2 They are barely 1 inch long each and i dont know what to feed them. Usually, i use flakes but they float and the ebjds dont come up to get them. Other times i sue beefheart or cichlid delight cubes which sink and they still dont eat it. ( my regular jds dont really enjoy them either ) What should I feed them? Their mouths are so small i cant tell what to feed them.

Right now, i have in a 55 gallon tank, 6 regular dempseys, three electric blue jack dempseys and one pleco. Once they grow a bit bigger I will get bigger tanks to seperate them. But for now, I just want them to grow. The dempseys seem to have no problem with the EBJDS except for once in a while nips.

For some reason, in the last pic, the two EBJDS didnt look where they were going and knocked faces

Hey did you happen to buy those at parrots of the world in long island?

To feed your EBJD's I would try crushing up the flake because then it usually sinks (that's what I do with my convict fry) or bloodworms.........I'd keep a careful eye on those little guys because they will most likely not grow as fast as your regular JD's and won't be as aggressive.....Just wouldn't want two great fish to take a beating.......Good luck and best wishes to you and your new fish........

Thanks! No, I did not buy these in long island. I live in staten island. What about the beefheart or cichlid delight cubes? would they work ?

I would say cichlid delight would work better than beefheart.........In my experience i can only get my older cichlids to eat beefheart, never very young ones...........I would also try hikari pellets......they are very good for your fish and will make them look great.........

I have had mine 4 months now and he has grown very well (doubled in size). I feed him “Hikari Cichlid Bio-Gold+” (mini pellets) most of the time. Then “Spectrum THERA+A” part of the time (these pellets are very small). Then about once a week some frozen brine shrimp or blood worms. I have good luck growing all my fish quickly by feeding small amounts two to three times a day with weekly partial water changes. Very important not to over feed! EBJDS are susceptible to parasites caused by left over food.
And by the way the “Spectrum THERA+A” is a non medicated anti parasitic pellet.
Good luck and enjoy.

This is great advice........Hikari Bio-Gold is the kind of pellets I feed mine also.......

I see... Well, I bought some fresh live bloodworms and all my fish love em. my ebjds are eating too now :). But i dont want to base it on bloodworms so I might as well get these hikari-pellets you guys speak of.

Yea the Hikari pellets are worth the buy, just make sure you buy the mini pellets so they're small enough for the fish........also if you don't want to buy live bloodworms you can always buy frozen or freeze-dried........
